summary:
The world's crises have gone unheeded for five long years since Superman's mysterious disappearance. Without him, crime has risen in the city of Metropolis and beyond and Lex Luthor has been sprung from prison with only malicious intent in his mind. Lois Lane, star reporter for the Daily Planet and the love of Superman's life, has moved on since Superman left without a word. But for Superman, the long search for his place in the universe still only leads back to the Kent farm, among the only family he has ever known. His destiny lies in Metropolis, where one look in Lois's eyes tells him that this place, among the flawed but ultimately good people of Earth, is his true home. And with Lex's plan coming to fruition mere hours after his return, the world will never need Superman more than it does now.

my thoughts:
WOW, what a good movie. The only people who I could see hating this movie are people who hate the whole idea of there being a super man. This movie has a strange feel to it though in that Lex tries to mostly destroy the world, that’s all good, but you would think a man of his intelligence would realize the power of the world lies in it's people, and destroying it's people saps the world of it's power therefore making the world pointless to control. Also there are moments where I don't believe that superman likes Lois Lane at all. Maybe it's a subconscious reaction made after hearing that the guy who plays Superman in 'Superman Returns" is an openly gay actor, but whatever, his being gay doesn't impact this movie from still being one of the best movies of the year.
This movie had a few really spectacular visuals combined with a good storyline making it truly worthy of the "Superman Returns" title.

recommended audience: Optimists, and anyone else who doesn't mind seeing a fantasy movie based upon a comic book character.

CHICK FLICK RATING: 2.5 out of 5 (1 is 100% action and no romance, 5 is no action but 100% romance)
reasons:  -there is an equil amount of action to romance
-the part on the romance side that balances it out is the presence of Lois Lane' son

MY RATING: 8.5 out of 10
reasons:  -I deducted points for the minor non-beleavablility of romantic attraction betwen superman and Lois Lane
